Jon Irwin, CPA, CMA
Managing Partner
As the Managing Partner of Thomas Irwin Professional Corporation, I bring a wealth of experience and a proven track record in executive leadership, financial management, and operational excellence, particularly in the nonprofit sector. With over two decades of comprehensive experience, I have dedicated my career to empowering organizations to thrive and achieve their strategic goals.
From 2010 to 2022, as the Founder of Healthcare Accounting Professional Corporation, our team of up to 12 qualified and capable accountants had the pleasure of supporting numerous charitable organizations. Through our commitment to financial integrity and operational efficiency, we helped these organizations focus on their mission while managing their accounting, bookkeeping, and payroll functions. Our expertise in fostering collaboration and guiding organizations through transitions consistently resulted in improved outcomes and sustainable success.
Throughout my career, I have honed my skills in financial oversight and risk management, implementing best practices and enhancing internal controls to ensure fiscal responsibility and sustainability. My strategic financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting capabilities have effectively positioned organizations for growth while significantly reducing overhead costs.
In addition to my professional pursuits, I am an avid marathon runner, having completed 11 marathons to date. I am currently learning to play hockey and enjoy spending time with my golden retriever, Frankie, who is about to turn two years old. As a bit of a movie buff, I love to unwind with a good film. Although I’m not much of a cook, I am excited to personally attempt to prepare every weekly recipe we post on our site in the hopes of improving my culinary skills.
I hold a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA, CMA) designation and an Honours Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting from McMaster University.
Outside of my professional endeavors, I take pride in building strong partnerships and nurturing a positive organizational culture that fosters innovation and continuous improvement. I am dedicated to delivering exceptional service to all clients, ensuring their financial success and sustainability
Our Story
At Thomas Irwin Professional Corporation, we are deeply committed to empowering charities and not-for-profit organizations. The journey began with the establishment of Healthcare Accounting Professional Corporation, where Jon Irwin had the privilege of personally visiting and supporting an average of four charitable Long-Term Care Homes each week. During that time, he enjoyed working on-site with clients, forming meaningful relationships with both staff members and residents.
However, when COVID-19 arrived, the landscape changed drastically. The Long-Term Care Homes that Jon and his team supported were greatly impacted, and they were among the first to be removed from providing on-site support. Although they faced challenges, the team quickly adapted to the new normal of remote work with the hope that these changes would be temporary. Unfortunately, the effects of COVID-19 were devastating for their clients. Many individuals with whom they forged friendships, including the residents, suffered greatly during the pandemic, and tragically, many of them passed away. It was a profoundly sad time for everyone involved, yet they pushed forward to serve their clients to the best of their ability.
As the dust began to settle from the pandemic, Jon Irwin realized that he no longer recognized the company he had started in 2010. A fresh start was necessary. Over the next two and a half years, Jon worked with various charitable and not-for-profit organizations and even spent some time in politics. This period was exciting and enriching, leading him to realize his true calling: to create the most talented team possible to support the many wonderful charities and not-for-profit organizations that call Ontario home.
In 2024, this realization culminated in the formation of Thomas Irwin Professional Corporation. With a renewed focus on providing expert services remotely, the team has been able to thrive in this new normal. By embracing a remote work model, they have found that they are now more productive than ever in serving their clients. With a dedicated team in place, they are excited to offer expert accounting specialists, bookkeeping specialists, and payroll services to their clients. They can’t wait to get started with you!
